MATCH REPORT – 2ND ROUND WELSH CUP
CAERPHILLY CASTLE LFC 1 - PONTYPRIDD TOWN LFC 3

Pontypridd Town went into this cup clash with a point to prove after been knocked out of the league cup in extra time by Caerphilly in their last meeting.
Both teams started strongly and Caerphilly were rewarded for their efforts with a goal after 15 minutes. Ponty didn’t let their heads drop and with some neat play through midfield they had Caerphilly on the back foot for most of the first half. Carly Jones brought the match level with a great finish giving both teams plenty of incentive going into the second half.
In the second half Ponty really took the game to Caerphilly with some staunch defensive work by Lesley Smith and Natalie Tarrant, giving the midfield freedom to create some exciting play. With Kirstie Davies and Maggie McCollum working tirelessly out wide Caerphilly were stretched and a cross field ball from captain Bethan Davies split the defence allowing Erica Monaghan to finish in the top corner giving Ponty the lead.
Caerphilly posed some threat to the away team out wide but an organised defence were able to absorb the threat and play some impressive balls to the ever eager midfield. Continuing pressure from the excellent Kirstie Davies brought a corner for Ponty, taken by Bethan Davies. Carly Jones scored her second and Pontys third with a strong header to see off Caerphilly.
This was a great team performance and a well deserved victory for the shrubs.
Their next challenge is away to Cambrian LFC on the 9th of December, 2pm kick off.
