Pontypridd Town  1   Dinas Powys  3

December 22nd 2007

Ponty fielded three players out of position in the back four and were soon under pressure from a visiting side using a slick passing game. Consequently, keeper Chris Golton was frequently called into action early on but he displayed his usual safe pair of hands until the tenth minute when he was given no chance by Dinas striker Nana Baah. Ponty had cleared a dangerous looking attack but when the ball was returned into the box, the offside trap failed to function and Baah had all the time in the world to score with ease. Three minutes later, Golton made a superb save from a Ricki Morgan curling shot which he could not have seen until the last second.

Despite several more half chances going begging and Golton again saving well on a number of occasions, the visitors had to wait until the half hour mark to score again and it was a well worked goal set up by Morgan's through ball to Jason Cowan. The Dinas midfielder controlled the ball well in his stride and held off two defenders efore scoring with a neat finish. The same player then headed over shortly afterwards.

It had been a difficult first half for Ponty but they had stuck to their task well in a type of game which might have seen them concede a hatful earlier in the season. In fact the second half was a much closer affair with Ebony Dixon heading a Jamal Roberts cross inches wide just after the restart. However, the visitors increased their lead shortly afterwards when Danny Kinsey got above everyone to head home a Phil James corner. Despite this setback, the Dragons were now competing well and they pulled a goal back after seventy minutes when the lively Dixon was felled by a rash challenge in the box and Jacob Daly netted from the spot with his usual aplomb.
That was the end of the scoring with the game now played much more in midfield although Golton did produce another stunning reflex save from a Kurt Bettles close range header.

Ponty now face a difficult trip to Goytre on Saturday although Matthew Phillips will return to the squad after suspension.

Pontypridd town: Chris Golton; Peter Evans, Craig Green, Lee Harriman (sub. Stuart Parr), Tommy Saleh, Jamal Roberts, Wayne Antoniazzi, Kyle Johnson, David Avery (sub. Mike Selio), Ebony Dixon, Jacob Daly.

The club would like to take this opportunity to wish all our supporters, website viewers, and Mark Elliott's mother a very happy Christmas.
